The old adage of “Every journey starts with the first step” certainly applies to the Colorado Fly Fishing Guide Academy (CFFGA). After many years of discussion about doing a guide school we took that step and started our program in 2015. We spent a lot of time looking at a wealth of material and input from many sources, which we eventually pared down to what we believe are the essentials for becoming a professional fly fishing guide.

Our program is not just about fishing, it is about all of the things you need to do, and know, to be a successful fly fishing guide.

Our academy is unique in that we bring in many different instructors, who are experts in their fields, to teach our sessions. Our students literally get to sit across the table from some the best guides in Colorado and ask them questions as they present their material.

Colorado Fly Fishing Guide Academy Mission Statement

The mission of the CFFGA is to develop fly fishing guides who emphasize a culture of safety, provide excellent customer service, possess knowledge of their craft, serve as ambassadors to the sport of fly fishing, and operate on the premise that every trip is a special adventure for their clients.

Becoming a fly fishing guide is a process and this academy is a major step in that process. We assume that since you are considering becoming a guide you are competent angler. While fishing techniques and gear are certainly part of the discussion; they simply are not the primary focus of this program.

If you are thinking about becoming a fly fishing guide we hope you will take those first steps with CFFGA. We will do our best to put you on solid ground and to point you in the right direction for a long and successful journey.
